Since returning from Malta I have been inspired by the work of Caravaggio. His use of tenebrism, a pronounced from of chiaroscuro lighting (light-dark), has inspired a legion of artists, photographers and cinematographers including
Martin Scorsese. In some of the research I have read recently, it would seem that he was using lighting in the style of contemporary renaissance theater. I used a single gridded reflector on an Elinchrom ELC 500 for this shot inspired by the
Calling of St Mathew. Thanks to
McShery Obrien for being such good sports in allowing me to interrupt their band practice.
